The Hampton Inn Assures Me My Bedding Is Clean

In a first ever for me, I arrived at a Hampton Inn Room to find a post-it note reassuring me that my bedding was clean:

a yellow post-it note with black writing on it

At first I thought it was silly.  But the more I thought about it, the more I was glad they put the post-it note there.  There are many sketchy stories out there about the bedding in hotels, and most seasoned travelers I know immediately pull the bedding off their beds upon arrival.  Well, when not staying in high-end properties.

I’ve mentioned that I sometimes stay in boutique hotels and two-star hotels.  I get very cold at night, so I need the blankets.  I always end up doing this awkward half-fold with the comforter, where it is keeping half my body warm but is in no danger of ever touching me.

The Hampton Inn is on the border of this.  I’ve stayed at Hampton Inns that have way exceeded my expectations, and I’ve stayed at one that vaguely reminded me of the Shining.  I never fully thought about the bedding until I saw this post-it note, but I realized I’ve been very hesitant to rest items on top of the bed in the past.  I actually do feel reassured by this note.

I can’t help but wonder if these post-it notes were the result of a policy change, or if they are a PR campaign to reassure consumers that the Hampton Inn is not the type of hotel you have to worry about having shady levels of cleanliness.  My guess is that it is a little of both.  The Hampton Inn used to have the c0ver-style bedding (rather than their current duvets) and I doubt they cleaned those in between visits.  But I’ve seen these duvets for a while, and this is the first time I’ve seen a note like this.  I just stayed at the Shining Hampton Inn very recently too.

But for now, I’m typing carefree on top of the duvet cover at the Hampton Inn.  And if there’s still any chance this bedding isn’t clean, well… I choose to live in blissful ignorance.
