Double United Miles for Flights to/from Seattle from Select Cities

I just got really excited when an email from United showed up in my inbox with the subject line: “Earn double miles on select West Coast flights” Visions of ridiculous, last minute elite status mileage runs to sunny Southern California in December immediately popped into my head.

Sadly it was not that exciting. But if you’re planning a trip to or from Seattle before March 31, 2014, it’s worth looking into.

Nonstop flights between Seattle and Anchorage, Portland (PDX), San Francisco, and Los Angeles will earn double award miles. Note that it’s award miles, not premier qualifying miles towards status. Register and purchase by December 31 for travel before March 31, 2014.

A closer look at the terms & conditions further limits the offer. You do qualify for double miles for any legs on a qualifying route, even if your origin and destination are elsewhere. But, only certain fare classes qualify and the discount economy K, T, V classes I love are definitely excluded.

So no cost to register just in case you can use it, but probably not worth booking unplanned travel.

Also, reader Rocky, just let me know that both Alaska Airlines and Delta are offering double award miles and double elite qualifying miles for flights from Seattle to select cities. Use links above to register.
