Award Stays Will Count Towards Club Carlson Elite Status

Club Carlson just announced changes to the loyalty program taking effect March 15. I immediately focused on award stays now counting towards elite status — always a good thing for my travel! 20 paid stays and 15 award nights would now earn Concierge rather than Gold status.

You’ll also now be able to book better rooms and suites with points.

However many changes are for the worse, though pleasantly phrased in the email:

  • “Our hotel categories will be updated and will include a new tier for our most luxurious hotels.”
Translation: We’re adding a new category 7 at 70,000 points a night. Cities affected include Paris, London, and Dubai.
  • Current online booking bonuses, which were 2,000-3,000 points for elites, are going away — “Our bonus for booking online will be offered on a promotional basis”
  • Elite earning bonuses for Silver and Gold are decreasing, though Concierge Elite will stay the same.

If you’re interested in more details, Loyalty Lobby has a great post this morning detailing the changes and impact on elites.

For casual user of Club Carlson hotels like myself, these changes probably won’t make a big difference either way. Through the Club Carlson Rewards Visa Business Card, I get automatic Gold Status and a free night on every award stay of 2 or more nights. I probably only stay at Radisson properties 10 nights a year, most of which are award nights fueled by credit card spend or big promo bonus.
