Birchbox with a Bonus — June 2014

June’s Birchbox is definitely in the top 5 — no food or tea and three samples counted as one!

The first thing to catch my eye was the nyakio sample which has the best packaging I’ve seen in a Birchbox.

It contained three decent size samples of their Kenyan Coffee Face Polish, Body Scrub, and Hydrating Face Oil ($34-$55) based on the insight into the benefits of coffee beans shared by Nyakio’s grandmother. I’m super excited about trying them — just hoping I don’t over-caffeinate myself like I did with a chocolate body scrub and oil massage in Bali!

Next up was a silver eyeliner pencil from Cynthia Rowley Beauty ($16). I tend towards dark colors, but this one was true silver (not just sparkly white) and looked good even in the daytime when applied to the lower eyelid.

There was also a stick of LAQA & Co Sheer Lip Lube Pencil ($18). The purple color didn’t look terrible when on, but still not quite my style. I did like that it went on creamy but matte. So no sticky lips and no dried out feeling either.

I’m a huge fan of Lemongrass, which makes me think of the spas in Thailand, which offset my disappointment of getting body wash. I’ve heard good things of Dr. Hauschka, so am interested in trying the Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Body Wash, though I doubt I’ll ever pay the $22.95 price tag for it.

Trying new lotions is always high on my list, so I was much happier to see the Perlier Shea Almond Body Cream ($28.45) which was also the perfect size for a 2-3 day trip.

And the last item in my box was a playful travel quiz to kick off their new partnership with JetBlue. I had not realized they were supplying the amenity kits for JetBlue’s new Mint class, so interested to hear what they contain!

  1. I got the coffee body scrubs sample in my April box and I was certainly not a fan. I also got the eyeliner (but in black) and loved it. I am excited for my June box. Mine always takes excessively long to receive though…

  2. funny that you are disappointed by the body wash. I love getting body wash samples. More and more hotels are dropping body wash from in room amenities (or you have to call and request) that I am now worried that I won’t find it in the room that I now have to add a product to my already overstuffed liquids baggie.
