Avis Launching New Points Based Rewards Program

By  |

Just got an email alerting me that the invitation-only Avis First will be renamed Avis Preferred Plus and restructured to earn points instead of weekend rentals.

Supposedly this will give members more options: “The Avis Preferred Points currency will be flexible, and you will have the ability to redeem points the way you want – on rentals, upgrades and optional products.” In the past, Avis First members (those who completed 12 qualifying rentals or 35 qualifying nights) would earn a two day weekend rental for every 4 rentals of 2+ days.

Details will be forthcoming in the next few months when the program launches. I’ll be interested to see if this is open to all Avis Preferred members and if it’s actually an improvement. I’ve switched to National, but occasionally use Avis when they have a much cheaper rate, and enjoy the Avis First perks. I’m redeeming for my upcoming trip to Albuquerque and saving $250!

If a tree fell in the middle of the forest….why oh why do rental car reward programs suck so much. Can’t they just make it simple. And stop renaming stuff. Sorry I just get so tired of companies renaming everything for the sake of change.
