Carnival Cruises announced they will begin offering cruises in May 2016, but there’s a catch. The seven-night sailings will be on their newest line fathom, which focuses on voluntourism.

Passengers will spend their time ashore working on local causes and onboard in attending practical workshops and lectures. And the privilege won’t be cheap, bookings start at $2,990 per person.

Don’t expect other cruise lines to be offering traditional vacation cruises anytime soon, under the embargo trips that are only tourism based are prohibited.
