United Status Match & Bonus Miles Offer
I just got an email from United offering a status match and/or bonus award miles for flying in the next 90 days. A United 1K for 3 years, I haven’t flown them since they moved to a revenue based frequent flyer program — a problem for someone who wasn’t traveling much for work.
There are two offers, apply for a 90 day status match and fly a certain number of miles to keep it through January 31, 2017 or register to earn bonus miles on each segment.
Note that heavily discounted tickets, fare classes S, T, L, K, G, N, and W, are not eligible and this offer is only valid for targeted members. Â Registration and choice of bonus must be made by December 31.
This status match is not substantially different from the MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge that anyone can apply for but it does come with 10,000 bonus award miles if you successfully complete the challenge.
- 7,000 Premier qualifying miles (PQM) or 8 Premier qualifying segments (PQS) to retain Premier Silver status
- 12,500 PQM or 15 PQS to retain Premier Gold status
- 18,000 PQM or 22 PQS to retain Premier Platinum status
The bonus award miles offer for segments is interesting — good if you have United segments coming up but not enough to warrant going for status. Longer segments must be p.s. routes or more than 3,000 miles.
Since I’m close to requalifying for American Airlines Executive Platinum I will probably hold off on choosing either offer until I see if a really good United Airlines deal or mistake fare pops up.
Interesting offer. Since there are so many of us that jumped ship during/after the merger and haven’t seen “enhancements” that make returning desirable, I wonder how many folks will take the offer. ..
I received the same targeted offer a few days ago. Also, a 1K for 4 years, then Platinum, and then to nothing the next year.. I wonder if United is starting to feel the affects of their revenue based system. I switched to AA and have no intention on going to UA (even though I do miss them). I actively go out of my way to avoid UA when I used to go out of my way to fly them.
