Great Cash & Points Value at the Four Points Portland East

I stayed at the Portland Four Points when I made my first visit to the city last year and had a perfectly comfortable stay. So when I was looking for a inexpensive hotel night for my PDX urban wine tasting adventure, it was the first place I looked.

The prepaid rate was $139, making 4,000 points for an award night a pretty good deal. Even better was the cash and points option — 2,000 points and only $35 dollars. Granted, the Four Points Portland East is pretty east, about 10-15 minutes from the airport and about 20-30 minutes to downtown depending on traffic.

Fortunately for both of my stays I only needed a comfy place to sleep at night and it delivered. At check-in I had the same friendly staff person I had last May (though typical with my good-with-faces-bad-with-names, I don’t remember) and this time I got a very thorough run through of what the Four Points had to offer.

As a Platinum amenity I could choose points or continental breakfast. The restaurant next door was not part of the hotel but I could charge meals directly to my room and/or order room service and earn extra points. From 5-6 they would be doing complimentary 3oz pours of their “best brew” in the lounge area and from 6:30-8:30PM there were free snacks in the lobby.a lobby with a yellow sign

Unfortunately my schedule was once again such that I didn’t get a chance to try any of it, but was good to know.

I had been upgraded one up from the entry level room to a Deluxe Guest Room on the second floor. It was a little bit bigger and featured a tiny sink and microwave and fridge.

I still find it hard to get used to the cold white lighting of the energy saving lightbulbs, but at least there were plenty of them. A nice work space though difficult to watch TV from the desk (if you wanted to).

Quite liked the sink in the bathroom and though I couldn’t figure out how to get the water really hot, the water pressure was great.

I did not have time to try out the indoor pool (which was empty every time I went by) but I did get to use the gym which fortunately was also empty. Nothing fancy but a decent array of machines in a tiny room.

The upstairs neighbors can be a little loud, it sounded like mine dressed and packed vigorously at 4AM, but I didn’t have any noise from the hall or adjacent rooms, for try for the top floor if you’re sensitive to noise.

A very solid stay, especially at that price!

  1. It looks a lot better than Starwood’s Sheraton Atlanta Airport which, for the same point redemption, was in a total state of disrepair But a full night’s sleep is near the top of the list of priorities for most of us. If my upstairs neighbor wakes me up at 4AM from simply dressing and packing, then I can’t call it a solid stay. Imagine the noise if they had little kids running around. And how would you know (in advance) that you can be assigned a room on the top floor?
