September’s Birchbox arrived and I was disappointed. It felt like I had seen many of the products before, even though it came with a bonus 6th sample and there was only overlap with two items.

The theme was clever — multitaskers, products that serve multiple functions.

One of the repeats was the Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse ($10) which I’d received in a box earlier this summer. I actually really like it — you use it once or twice a week after shampoo and conditioner to remove product buildup and seal your hair cuticles for shiny hair — I just wasn’t quite ready to get it again so soon.

Another item I’d received before was the Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner ($36) that replaces traditional shampoo, removing dirt and oil without stripping your hair. I found it to be rather like a dry shampoo in effect. Helped somewhat but my hair was still oily by the end of the day.

The packaging on the Bioderma Sensibo H20 ($16.90) isn’t great for travel since it doesn’t reseal but the idea of a no-rinse makeup remover and toner is interesting.

And I wasn’t thrilled to see a purple Love of Color stick. I at first thought it was the eyeshadow which is super handy on trips since I don’t have to worry about the cake breaking up and getting over everything. But no. It’s the LOC Ultra Gloss Lip Pencil in Purple Reign ($12). And you’re never going to see me in trip pictures with lavender lips…

Also included was a Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek ($24) in a more sensible Perk color that I could actually see using on my lips and my cheeks (if I used blush).

I like Oribe but I’m not crazy about multi-uses foil packs, so I’m not sure how I feel about the Cote d’Azur Replenishing Body Wash & Restorative Body Creme ($42-$65). I’ll let you know after I’ve tried it 🙂

The box is definitely worth more than $10, just not the usual thrill since I already had some of the products and am picky about my lip colors…If you’re interested to give Birchbox a try, please sign up via my link and I’ll get $5 to spend in the store. You can get $5 store credit by reviewing the first 5 products you receive.
