The Astonishingly Great Hyatt Place Asheville Downtown

I never thought I would say “I wish I had more time to stay at a Hyatt Place,” But the Hyatt Place Asheville really delivered.

The rates at all downtown Asheville hotels were pretty expensive for the week between Christmas and New Year’s. But I had an expiring free night certificate from my Hyatt credit card, which made the Hyatt Place Asheville Downtown, a category 3 hotel, a value. Rooms were going for $200+, anything over the $75 annual fee for the credit card is instant savings!

The one downside to the Asheville Hyatt Place is the charge for parking. Self parking and valet are both $16. Valet parking is covered, but it looked like things could get backed up during peak times. They also have charging stations for Teslas, but I noticed that normal cars parked in those spaces when the parking lot filled up at night.a bar with stools and lights from the ceiling

The Hyatt Place Asheville opened recently and still looks brand new! I loved the the high ceilings and festively decorated lobby. Check in wasn’t ideal. There was only one person working the desk, and that person was also the person working the bar and Starbucks area. Which meant there was a 5 minute wait for several parties checking in while a coffee order was finished.

When my turn came, there was good and bad news. I’ve been hoping for an early check in, but my room wasn’t ready. That’s because they had upgraded me to one of their two best suites in the place. I was stunned as I only have Hyatt Platinum status which would usually just get me free water or something.

The delay was the perfect excuse to take a short walk into the main downtown region of Asheville and grab brunch at Tupelo Honey Cafe.

An hour and a half later, I was back and my room was ready. It was definitely worth the wait. Located at the end of the hall, the suite boasted a spacious living room, a gigantic bathroom, and a sweet little kitchenette with a nice dining table and a corner view of the mountains.

The only thing it lacked was a real desk, but fortunately the dining room table with also conducive for work.

After trying several recommended breweries I was hoping to check out The Montford, their rooftop bar, before calling it a night. Accessed by a separate elevator from the hotel rooms it was pretty sweet. Despite it being December, the weather was mild and they have some heat lamps set up, so I decided to end the evening out on the mini deck overlooking the west part of town.

Their wine list was decent and a bottle of Schramsberg sparkling wine was only $45, a perfect way to end the evening. We also had a great server — she made a surprising but excellent recommendation of getting the chocolate cookies to pair with the bubbly. She were also really nice about not herding me out even though they were closing, offering to let me stay out there until they had finished cleaning the inside.

A surprisingly great option at a hotel and even if you’re not staying there the rooftop bar is worth checking out.

Hyatt Place Asheville breakfast area during non-peak times

Breakfast the next morning was a little less great. The spacious dining area was completely packed with people. A lot of families and unhappy children. The breakfast selection was the typical Hyatt Place offering with their breakfast sandwiches, a few hot options, and some fruit. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible.

They did have an indoor pool with windows overlooking the street, but I just didn’t have enough time for this brief trip to check it or the fitness center out. I will definitely be staying at this Hyatt again my next time Asheville.

  1. Stayed in this hotel and it actually surprised me. It was a low level category before (I think we only paid 8k Hyatt points a night) and it definitely delivered. While we didn’t get upgraded, our room was super spacious enough for 3 people.

Wish we brought a swimsuit – would have loved to try the indoor pool!

  2. Stayed there probably 10 times when it was a category 1 when it opened which was a great value. At that time they didn’t charge for parking.
As a Diamond never got a suite upgrade I think you lucked out! or they knew about your blog.
