Monthly Subscription Box for Camping Chic?

a cardboard box with a logo on it

I’ve discovered yet another monthly subscription box — this time with an outdoor/camping theme. I’m sporty (believe it or not) but I’m not a camper. However, with trips to Wyoming and Alaska coming up in the next couple of months, I thought a month or two of cool outdoorsy accessories would be some great inspiration.

Cairn will send you a monthly box of the latest and greatest outdoors and camping supplies for $25 a month. I looked at Cairn box reviews and decided it was worth the “risk.” Some of the items might not be worth it, but one can never have enough lipbalm, protein bars, even hiking socks. And when I saw things like a wine bottle sized collapsible flask were included, I jumped.

A week after signing up for a one month subscription, my box arrived.a box with a box of paper

I love the packaging. Even for a faux-outdoorsman like myself, it’s inspiring.

And the contents were pretty great.

Mountain House Neapolitan Ice Cream ($3) reminiscent of the astronaut ice cream I loved when visiting space museums and Munk Pack Blueberry Acai Flax Oatmeal (yes it’s liquid) $2.50.

But I was most excited about the travel size bottle of Sierra Sage Bugs Be Gone ($8) made of organic herbs and essential oils which will be great for my time in Alaska. And the Klymit Pillow X inflatable pillow that weighs under 2 oz. and apparently keeps your head perfectly centered. I might never use it, but it’s still pretty cool.

Overall Thoughts about the Cairn Subscription Box
Unlike many other subscription boxes, this one doesn’t give you a huge discount on the items. It costs $25 and it looks like the contents usually retail for $30-$40. But, it does seem like a great way to find out about gear and supplements that you might otherwise not think of or come across. I’m gonna keep my subscription for a few more months and see if there’s enough overlap between travel and trekking. 🙂

They do have a loyalty program of sorts. Earn 250 points and get a free box. You get 25 points for completing your profile and 25 points per box you review. Getting a friend to sign up gives you 100 points.

  1. Hey thanks for reviewing the box. I used your referral info when I signed up cause I figure someone should get the benefit and I don’t know anyone personally who has subscribed. 🙂 hope you have a great time in Alaska!
