American Cancels All Friday Flights From CLT, DC/NYC Flights on Saturday
American Airlines announced they’re cancelling all Friday flights in and out of Charlotte in anticipation of the approaching storm which is expected to deliver at least half an inch of ice. More than 600 flights are affected. (h/t: Phillip) Flights should resume Saturday morning.
All Washington DC flights have been cancelled for Saturday and as well as flights into New York airports Saturday afternoon.
What should you do if your flight is cancelled?
- Call customer service immediately. If you’re already in the airport, call customer service and walk to the nearest agent in case they can help you sooner.
- Know in advance your ideal dates and be ready to be flexible, available seats go fast.
- If you have internet access, research specific flights to suggest.
- Take a deep breath, its inconvenient but not the end of the world!

I have an Eagle flight out of EWR on Sunday. Hope things get back to normal by then.
Gotta be proactive at this time of the year given such weather. At the moment I’m the Amex Centurion lounge at MIA having flown AA’s SFO-MIA transcon, waiting for my MIA-SJO flight in an hour. Was supposed to fly SFO-JFK-CLT-SJO in Flagship F, then domestic F and transborder J (revenue ticket). When I saw news reports of the pending storm I checked AA’s schedules and available seats and found 1 revenue F seat left on both flights via MIA since I figured CLT would be a washout. Called the ExecPlat line at midnight SFO time last night and the agent was able to get me those last seats. Not happy about missing a Flagship F flight (and the healthy 12K bonus RDMs on that route, but will be happy in the Costa Rican sun and warmth this weekend.
