One Way to Earn Cashback on Hyatt Bookings

It was a sad day for me and my Hyatt reservations when both TopCashback’s 3% cashback option went away mid-year and the American Express 5% OPEN savings credit was discontinued at the end of 2015.

But I keep checking to Cashbackholic in the hopes something new will come up and I noticed to two current options — 4.8% through Jet.com or 1.5% on Coupon Cactus. I don’t like trying to manage more than a few cashback portal accounts so I ignored Coupon Cactus, but almost 5% through Jet.com on a $300+ stay seemed worth adding another site.

So I finally paid attention to Jet Anywhere. They offer JetCash, redeemable on Jet.com, for shopping with 600+ merchants, including Hyatt. Not as great as real cash, but for large purchases it seemed worth trying.

  1. Create or log in to your Jet.com account.
  2. Click through to the merchant from their site.
  3. Make a purchase there within 24 hours.
  4. Forward the order confirmation to anywhere@jet.com. Turns out for travel you also have to forward them the final receipt/proof of stay.

I wasn’t crazy about sending all that information which included travel dates and details, but decided to try it. I did make sure to delete all my loyalty program number and anything else I thought was non-essential.

As it turns out, if you pay with a Hyatt gift card you can’t earn JetCash. I received this response within just an hour or two of sending my final receipt, impressive as it was the middle of the night.

I hadn’t read the terms and conditions closely enough and stays paid with gift cards were not eligible. Oh well, will definitely keep in mind for next time.

This isn’t an ideal way to save on Hyatt stays, but if you’re willing to give up some privacy and plan to shop on Jet.com it’s worth knowing about.
