Ever wondered what happens to the items the TSA confiscates? Apparently some of them of them end up on auction. Check out the Confiscated/Forfeited/Personal Property category on GovDeals.

Get 25 corkscrews for $50 (just don’t try to take them through airport security). Want one safe from TSA inspection, check out my recommendations.

Lots of knife bundles, and if you’re located near Anchorage, you can take a shot at 25 pounds worth of knives, corkscrews, and other assorted instruments.

To be clear, it’s not the TSA selling or profiting from your items. “Voluntary Abandoned Property” is turned over to state agencies who do or donated to approved non-profits.

While it’s interesting to see the random things available for sale, overall I find the site rather depressing, wondering how many of the bigger items came through civil forfeiture from innocent folks. The state can seize your property on the grounds it *might* have been related to criminal activity, without ever charging you with a crime. The cost of suing to get it back is usually prohibitive 🙁

  1. Nothing like the government making it legal to steal from you. Then they want to make more profit AFTER you already paid an arm and a leg to fly.
