- Monarch Airlines, a UK based airline, ceased operations today leaving 110,000 passengers stranded abroad and 300,000 future bookings suddenly cancelled. The British government is launching their biggest peacetime repatriation operation to bring those affected back home.
- An island in the south Pacific is having to evacuate its entire population Dunkirk-style before the volcano at its center blows. Residents are pitching in to help each other, collecting supplies, chartering a boat, even planes to get everyone to safety.
