“Superhenge” Discovered Near Stonehenge
About 2 miles from Stonehenge and 3 feet underground, a giant ritual arena with 90 stones has been discovered. All of the stones are on their sides and some were apparently up to 15 feet tall. The discovery was part of the Stonehenge Hidden Landscapes Project (who knew!?). No news yet on whether they will excavate.
And if you’re thinking about visiting Stonehenge for the first time, I recommend going to Avebury as well or instead. The stones encircle the village and you have much freer access than Stonehenge.
