Italy Has a Free Public Wine Fountain & More
Highlights and headlines from around the web:
- This town in Italy has a free public wine fountain! The Dora Sarchese Vineyard winery started it as a reward for pilgrims completing the “Cammino di San Tommaso” but it is open to all. I have a feeling it may start to attract a different kind of pilgrim. 🙂
- By the way, did you know that Paris has free sparkling water fountains around the city? Keep your eye out next time you go. Apparently they can look rather grubby but taste quite amazing.
- Good news! TripAdvisor is now labeling hotels where sexual assault have been reported. Reviews claiming assault will be considered by an internal committee, and when possible, verified with media reports as well. Hotels will then get a temporary warning badge intended to be “informative, not punitive.” As a frequent solo traveler, this is incredibly helpful, and much better than their previous approach, which was to delete many reviews mentioning assaults.
- Today was not a great day to be flying. 1,000 gallons of fuel were spilled at the Atlanta airport causing several gates to be evacuated. And all take offs and landings were paused when the entire Hamburg Airport was closed due to “intruders.”
- One of Edinburgh’s most famous historic buildings may soon become a luxury hotel. What are your thoughts? Do transforming old historic buildings into hotels save them or ruin them?
- Suggestions for the best hot weather travel shoes for men? Something good for walking all day and nice enough for dinner at a decent restaurant, preferably $200 or less. My friend has researched all the magazine articles but would love to hear from frequent travelers, obviously I’m no help in this area since he’s not looking for a nice wedge. 🙂

re: hot weather travel shoes for men – This is really tough. I’ve taken several trips with chukkas or desert boots in order to try and straddle the line between decent looking and staying comfortable, and they have always killed my feet. All the leather shoes I’ve seen that are supposed to be comfortable for walking (Rockports, Merrells) usually look awful. If you’re going to be walking a lot in some hot weather, just get a decent looking pair of sneakers. I like Allbirds. Super comfy, breathable, and easy to go sockless, but they don’t look like you’re on your way to the gym.
Thanks for the insight and the recommendation! Will definitely look into Allbirds.
