Halfway Towards a First Class Award Ticket to Asia with One Credit Card

One of the most common questions I get from friends & family is how do I amass enough points to get these decadent first class award tickets every year. I have several key ways of getting the 120,000-140,000 miles you need:

  • Flown miles (always credit miles to one airline when flying their partners, ex: crediting United flights to my US Airways number)
  • Credit card spend — I put everything possible on my credit cards to earn miles, including $1 soda purchases
  • Credit card sign up bonuses — As you might have seen if you read my earlier post on “What’s in My Wallet”, I have quite a few credit cards. And signing up for 1 or 2 or even 3 every 90-120 days is how I get miles for a lot of my international travel.

So, with that in mind, if you have a desire to do a Singapore First trip of your own, or any business class or international travel, it’s worth looking into the Ink credit cards from Chase,  which have a 60,000 point sign up bonus this week.

That gets you a one way ticket in First Class or 2/3 of the way to a business class ticket on some of my favorites — ANA, Thai Airways, and Asiana Airlines– when you convert the points to United Airlines miles. You can also transfer to Southwest, British Airways, Hyatt, and more.

I have 2 Ink cards and will be keeping at least one in spite of the annual fee. Getting 5x the points for paying my cell phone/cable bill more than makes up for the cost.

And you may be looking at them saying, but I don’t have a small business. You very well might! My small business is the marketing consulting (mostly unpaid) I do on the side 🙂 View From The Wing has a nice post on how almost anyone can apply.

Note: Jeanne & I do not receive any affiliate credit for applying through the links above (although we wish we did 🙂 ). We only share the credit cards that we ourselves use and find useful and think our friends and family should consider.
