Review of the Sheraton, Birmingham
We stayed at the Sheraton the night after we stayed at the Westin. They’re next door to one another, and they’re linked by tunnels through the parking lot. We got an interesting rate that included a $25 Mastercard gift card, two Cokes, and a little cooler large enough for a six-pack. It made the stay at the Sheraton much cheaper than the Westin.
Our room was on the fifteenth floor, but our view wasn’t as good. The room also wasn’t as comfortable: the new (?) “energy efficient†cooling detects our presence and then might take fifteen minutes to get the room to the desired temperature. While the room wasn’t outrageously expensive, I found that disappointing given what we did pay. I don’t know the degree to which things recovered: even with the temperature set on 70, I found the room kind of stuffy.
There was an inspiring message on the wall in the gym at the Sheraton. I wasn’t able to get the whole thing, but
The breakfast buffet was excellent (if pricey), and so was the staff. I was less impressed with the renovated Sheraton than I was with the new Westin, but the differences between the two are reflected in the price.

If you Google the model of thermostat in your room, there’s often a way to override its auto-presence feature. This has come in handy a few times!
