“The Place Where You Go To Listen”

a sign on a door

Is in Fairbanks, Alaska at the University of Alaska Museum of the North. On my first visit I discovered the place where you go to listen room on the second floor and was puzzled, intrigued, and delighted.

As I walked it felt like I was in a Le Meridien elevator for a minute.

Artist John Luther Adams composed a light and sound display based on the real time movements of the sun and vibrations of the earth.

Sounds that can’t be heard by the human ear but are picked up by scientific instruments.

Interesting. (And I leave it to you to decide if I actually ever listen…)

The Place Where You Go To Listen is part of the University of Alaska Museum of the North, located on campus at 907 Yukon Dr, Fairbanks, AK 99775. Admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children with discounts for Alaska residents.
