A Glossybox Perfect for Singapore

a box with a variety of cosmetics

I recently discovered Glossybox, a new travel-size luxury beauty products box that’s giving Birchbox a run for it’s money! I’ve only had two boxes so far, and I’ve loved both their contents. It’s a little more expensive than Birchbox at $21, so I bet the first time I get a box where I only like one item, I’ll start to question it’s value.

But January’s box couldn’t have been more perfect for my trip to Singapore!

It arrived, with an interesting Man Repeller theme.

I wasn’t familiar at all with it, but apparently it’s a blog that covers the fashions that women love and men hate. Per the blog:

And upon opening the box, there was a cute note from the blog founder:

I got a little worried. My style is high heels and feminine dresses. Wasn’t quite sure if the Man Repeller beauty favorites were going to be for me. However, my make up is minimalist, so there was hope. And wow, what a box!

Most of the contents were perfect for my upcoming international flights and vacation to Singapore.

There was a little tube of Umbrian Clay Mattifying Serum by Fresh that I used on the 13 hour leg of my flights. Although not my favorite of the 4 different facial lotions I used on the trip, it did indeed keep my skin moisturized and non-shiny looking.

The pouch of Le Metier De Beaute Replenishing Daily Solution was fantastic! It not only held up to the dryness of one 10hr portion of my flight (with a second application), but I also wore it out and about in Singapore. It was lightweight, which was good in the humid climate, and didn’t come off when the sweat started to bead. And while my unprotected shoulders got pretty burned after 3 hours of walking around, the 30SPF kept my face safe. If only it weren’t $225 a bottle.

The Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara was one of my favorites. I’m very picky about my mascara and find most are too messy, winding up below my eyes in the morning if not removed at night. I risked it on my flights however and found it stayed put til washed off. And it did add extra volume to my lashes, giving a much needed lift to travel-weary eyes. The tiny size was ideal for my carry-on.

The small canister of Sebastian Professional Potion 9 was easy to pack, just in case my pre-trip preparations to keep my hair frizz-free in the humidity didn’t work out. They didn’t (more on that later), and this styling creme lived up to it’s hype of being able to hold a style while making your hair “smooth and touchably soft.” HUGE FAN.

I didn’t have time to apply the OPI “Can’t Let Go” Liquid Sand Nail polish, but it did come in one of my favorite toe-nail colors: purple. Funnily enough, the Vogue I was perusing on the flight was touting that very shade. I will definitely be donning it for my upcoming trip to Napa.

The tarte glamazon pure performance 12-hour lipstick looked awesome, but wasn’t sure I was brave enough to try the bright cherry red color abroad, when my normal lip shade rarely varies from a tinted gloss.

And the little sampler of Narcisco Rodriguez Eau de Toilette Spray smelled great, but as I’m not a huge perfume fan, I passed along to a friend.

The December Glossybox was also a win, and was my first introduction to the delightful eye for detail they have like the pattern on the inside of the box and the Christmas themed tissue paper!

While not all the contents in this one were up my alley, it showed alot of promise.

Bath salts, PleatsPlease perfume (too much like baby powder for me), and a crazy gold nail polish that didn’t come out all that great on my nails, but the friend I’d done a gift box subscription for got black, which looked amazing!

And the hit or miss partnering with Jewel Mint. I got a pinky ring, but the friend with the gift box got a really pretty siver and freshwater pearl long necklace.
