Parking Options for the Upcoming FTU in DC
A tip for those driving in for the Frequent Traveler University at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in December: if you don’t need in/out privileges, there are much cheaper parking options than the hotel rate of $27 a day!
Crystal City has a handy map outlining the location of various parking lots.
Free Parking – There are a few lots that offer free parking after 4PM on Friday and all day during the weekend. They’re about a 7 minute walk to the Hyatt Regency Crystal City.
Street Parking — is all metered, and very limited. Free after 9PM on Friday and Saturday and all day Sunday.
Discounted Garage Parking –Â this is what I will be using! Parking Panda (the hotwire of parking) offers an option at 2600 Crystal Drive which is adjacent to the Hyatt Regency and allows for overnight parking. To park for the weekend without moving your car is only $19. To park for the day is only $6. For more on Parking Panda, read my recent review.
New to Parking Panda? Sign up using my referral link and we’ll both get $5 in credit!
And stack the sign up bonus with the current Groupon offer $12 for $25 in parking credit, $20 for $40 in credit.
Tip: to look for parking, don’t enter “Hyatt Regency Crystal City” it will only show you spaces miles away. Enter 2600 Crystal Drive to see all available options.

How close is the Metro from the venue? My friends live one or two stops down the line in case I decide to drive instead of Amtrak’ing it.
From their website:
҉ۢFrom the Crystal City Metro Station the Blue and Yellow lines are available, in which our Washington DC metro area hotel is a 10 minute walk.
•Courtesy Hyatt Metro Shuttle to and from Crystal City Metro Station departs the hotel front drive every 15 minutes on the hour from 6:00am – 10:00pm Monday thru Friday, and 7:00am – 10:00pm Saturday and Sunday. (Times subject to change)
•Shuttle picks up and drops off at the corner of 18th street and S. Bell Street (Subject to change)”
Is there a way to walk to DCA from Crystal City (assuming the weather is nice and one doesn’t have much luggage)? I have always wondered about this since the Metro ride is so short.
There is a pedestrian path via the Mount Vernon Trail (http://www.crystalcity.org/_files/docs/dcabikemap.pdf) I would avoid walking along the airport access road if you can.
I’ve done the walk when I lived there. It isn’t bad, but the path is also very frequented by bicyclists and roller bladers, so if you have rolling suitcases, just be warned.
There is a lot of free parking options in the surrounding area but requires a 7-10 minutes walk. in the 18th and 15th street you can park your car in the public garage on Friday its not free but if you park your garage during the day and pick it up after you don’t have to pay since the garage attendant leaves at 9pm and leave the gate open ( I work in Crystal cIty I know this for sure) and in the weekend is free day and night. To get to the airport you can take the shuttle from the hotel to the metro station and its only one stop to DCA. hope this is help.
