Update on Going for Status on 3 Airlines This Year

a woman in a black dress with luggage

Earlier this year I wrote about my desire to go for status on 3 airlines. Here’s where I currently stand:

  • Achieved American Airlines Executive Platinum this week by doing a status match challenge and flying to Easter Island, Alaska, and Alaska again and I’m close to qualifying for Platinum for 2014.
  • I need to book one more flight to the west coast to achieve United Airlines Silver, which will at least have me boarding in the middle of the group, Economy plus the day of, and not paying checked bag fees.
  • Basically nowhere on US Airways, 20 segments but only 11K miles. However, if the switch to One World really does happen by the end of the year, it might be worth just buying top status rather than spending money on American Airline mileage runs to qualify for platinum next year.

  1. FYI – United Silver only gets you Boarding Group 2. Group 1 is reserved for First, GS and 1K. Even Gold elites don’t get Group1
