Intra Europe Biz Class Style Seats in American Airlines’ Economy?
This may be common knowledge, but as an infrequent American Airlines flyer I learned something new today! On the newest configuration of their 737-800, the two rows behind the exit rows (row 16 & 17) have a blocked middle seat.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw a seat “blocked” with a tray table between the arm rests. It was on Cyprus Airlines, and the business class cabin had the same 3×3 configuration economy did, except for the empty middle seat. And now you can apparently get that on some American Airlines flights in economy!
My flight was a last minute rebooking and they put me in the exit row, so I never bothered to check SeatGuru. But there it is. I would have tried to take a picture of the actual seat but the occupants were right behind me in the boarding process 🙂
Reason for that is limiting the number of available seats to 150 or below, so they don’t require a fourth FA.
Thank you! I figured there was a real reason but had no idea.
Those seats are pretty nice considering they are available to anyone (not just elites), from what I recall. They do this to limit number of passengers to 150 so they don’t need to put another flight attendant on the flight.
Current rows 16 and 17 are preferred seats, so they are available to non-elites…at a price. But enjoy it while it last because the seat “blocker” will be removed as more seats are added to the 737-800.
