American Airlines Check-In Kiosks and Mobile App Down
It felt a little bit like karma that I posted about the American Airlines Mobile App last night and this morning I got “Server not responding” for several hours. That probably should have clued me in that something was wrong and perhaps I’d want to leave a little  more time at the airport before my flight.
But no, unable to check-in at home (I figured because of an international segment), I headed to the airport a little more than an hour before my flight at 12:30. And went to the check-in kiosk and waited for several minutes while it tried to find my reservation based on my credit card.
It couldn’t. So then I input my confirmation number. Several minutes later it still couldn’t.
Now I was less than 45 min before my flight and standing in the first class check in line waiting my turn to get my boarding pass printed out. I was lucky, there were only 4 people in front of me. People without status were standing in a line of 20+ people.
Turns out the server that handles the mobile app and check in kiosks had been down for awhile. I rather wish they had put signs up on some of the machines, so I could have immediately joined the queue, but what can you do. I thought the problem was just a DCA issue (though that wouldn’t explain the mobile app), but several readers reported it was also affecting Miami and other airports.
It’s unclear if the problem is still a problem, but if you can’t print out your boarding pass at home or pull it up on your mobile app today, definitely give yourself more time at the airport!
Flying to GIG tomorrow and was unable to do OLCI…thought it might be because of the visa requirement AA wants to confirm. Guess I’ll have to get to the airport a half-hour earlier than planned. At least international ticket gets me Admirals Club at YYZ, then ExecPlat access to Flagship lounge at JFK.
