Best New Airport Amenities in 2015

I was recently sitting near my gate, marvelling how some airports have become little micro-cities, or at least mini-Main Streets. From my vantage point I could see several good restaurants, sporting the same decor they would outside of security, a nail salon, even a bar that featured a gas fireplace and big leather seats around it.

I could have been in any trendy downtown area, but this was in an airport! It’s no wonder that the J.D. Power 2015 North American Airport Study reports that passenger satisfaction has increased over the last 5 years, despite the increasing frustration with TSA.

So I was interested to read what USA Today has identified as the best new airport amenities in 2015. A few of the new perks they’ve spotted:

  • Better Transportation Options — More airports allowing ride-sharing services like Uber & Lyft to legally serve airport locations. If you’re traveling to an airport that hasn’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, consider a trick like this.
  • Nursing Lounges — At least 9 airports have added “lactation stations” for nursing mothers.
  • Better Food Options — More airports are adding better restaurants and healthier options. (See here for a list of the “healthiest” airports)
  • Happier environments — Many airports are trying help relax passengers with amenities like comfort dogs, yoga stations, even rocking or Adirondack chairs.

See the USA Today article for a full list of best new airport amenities and some quirky options.
