Free Ice Cream & Rained Out Twice In An Hour

I’d originally had super ambitious plans of going to the Marine Life exhibit, Gardens by the Bay, or the Botanic Gardens before my friend arrived. But I didn’t get out of the spa until almost noon, and I’ll admit, the 24 hours on the plane with little sleep had left me tired. So I decided to cut myself some slack and lounge by the pool (in a bathing suit) for a few hours.

I arrived and everyone else had had the same idea. All seats in the sun were crowded with families so I opted for some lunch in the pool restaurant, Oasis, first to see if a seat opened up. I ordered the Nasi Goreng, and enthusiastically replied when the waiter asked how spicy I wanted. After a really really long wait (30+ minutes), it arrived.

Invalid request error occurred. It came with the usual satay, but also came with a fried chicken wing (also usual) that I didn’t like at all. And boy was it spicy. Apparently my eagerness had been taken for experience. Oops 🙂 The portion was huge and my mouth was on fire, so after about 15 minutes of trying, I was ready to get the check and claim one of the seats by the pool that were opening up.

My server asked me to wait before leaving, he had an ice cream dish that would go perfectly after the spice of the Nasi Goreng, and it was on the house. Still a little worried about getting a seat I decided to wait, and boy was I glad I did.

It started with a base of meringue, usually I’m not a fan, but in this case it provided a neat texture to offset the creamy soft serve (almost like the soft serve had frozen solid), and then was topped with lots of berries and strawberry sauce. Yum.

Fortunately even more seats in the sun had opened up so I grabbed a chair and settled in to doze. 5 minutes later I started feeling cold, the sky was clouding up. 10 minutes later huge drops started to fall. I gathered my towels and ran for the awnings, not quite soon enough to avoid getting pretty damp as the skies opened up.

Determined to try to get some sun I waited about 15-20 minutes for the rain to stop and the pool attendants to bring the cushions back out. It was a little squelchy, even with towels, but soon I’d settled in again and started to nap. Only to be woken shortly after by a drop that landed perfectly in my eye.

This time I managed to make under cover before the next deluge, but decided to give up and head back to the room to relax before my friend arrived. I was just glad I hadn’t been in the middle of some gardens or walking to transportation like I would have been if I had been more proactive about siteseeing.
