Earn up to 20 Points per Dollar for Intercontinental Stays in Asia

I just received an email from IHG with their latest promotion for Rewards Club Members. You’ll earn 2x the points for food and beverages charged to your room, as well as any in-room expenses.

What I found most interesting about this offer was the fine print (highlighting mine):

  • The terms & conditions suggest spend during award stays or cash and points won’t qualify: “A Stay constitutes a ‘qualifying stay’ when paying qualifying rates, which include most business and leisure rates” It also suggests other really good rates wouldn’t be eligible either, even though the promo isn’t for the room charge.
  • Only some things charged to the room will qualify — Spa and some restaurants are excluded. So the only way to know you’re really earning 20 points per dollar instead of 10 is to do room service and laundry.

Its still worth registering if you have Intercontinental stays in Asia, Middle East, or Africa through October 31, 2014, but definitely less exciting than the marketing language suggests.
