What to do if your Spirit Air Flight is REALLY Delayed
I’m due to fly home from a conference today. We end at 3 pm, so I got an evening flight that was supposed to leave around 7 pm and get home a little after midnight. A little late, but nothing I wasn’t willing to deal with.
I check in this morning and imagine my shock when I see my flight is now leaving after 10pm and we’re expected to arrive at 3 am.
I happen to know that all the Spirit flights from Vegas to DFW are sold out for today. Spirit will let you change your flight online (for a large fee), but that’s not even an option with all the flights being sold out.
The devil on my shoulder is saying I should just embrace my fate, enjoy the extra time in Vegas and not worry about rushing to the airport when Spirit may not even let me fly standby without charging a large fee. The angel on my other shoulder is gently reminding me that I have children who will not necessarily let mommy sleep in tomorrow morning just because my flight was late.
If Spirit would let me fly stand-by, I know my best bet is trying a morning flight and hoping people over-slept and missed their flight. I also seriously doubt they will let me do that for free. We’re talking about Spirit Airlines, Vegas odds are, even if they do let you do that it will not be worth the extra charge.
I Tweeted to their “auto pilot” to see if I can get a response. If I don’t, I’m going to call over our lunch break to at least find out what their policy is.
To be continued….
1) If I’m flying Spirit,I’ll be crying.
2) If my Spirit flight is delayed that much, I’ll cry harder.
No way I can take a Spirit flight, I’m just over 6’0 and I will not pay for my carry-on.
Wish you luck!!!
Thanks! 🙂
Spirit will let you to change your canceled or seriously delayed flight for no fee. Try to locate their phone number for such situations (often provided in the emails they sent about delay). One time it happened to a friend and took less then 5 minutes to get another flight they wanted.
