Disney Cruise Lines Introducing “Star Wars Day at Sea”

Even though I’ve been going on cruises for over 30 years (my first cruise was on Sitmar if that tells you anything) we have never been on a Disney cruise. Usually because they are much more expensive than other cruise lines, and even when we can find a sale the timing or the itinerary isn’t enough to tempt us to go.

While everyone else was geeking out over the mistake fare on United yesterday; I was geeking out over the new addition to Disney Cruise Lines. Star Wars Day at Sea!

Before everyone gets too excited, this won’t be available until early 2016. And this isn’t available on every ship. It’s only available on the Disney Fantasy. It is also only good for select sailings. It will be on 7-day sailings out of Port Canaveral to the Western Caribbean. The ports of call are Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; and Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay. The sailing dates that have been announced (so far) are January 9th, 23rd, February 6th, 20th, March 5th, 19th, April 2nd, and 16th, 2016.

The event will happen on one out-to-sea day of each cruise. It includes a Star Wars themed deck party, youth activities, food and drinks, merchandise, meet and greet with characters, and they will play Star Wars movies and the animated series throughout the day.

More details will be released next week. I’m curious to see if this is a trial run to decide if they want to expand on this idea, or if it’s only in honor of the new Star Wars movie coming out. For those who didn’t know, Episode 7 is scheduled to be released December 18, 2015. I know they’ve had huge success with their “Star Wars Weekends†at Hollywood Studios; if this is successful I hope it’s something they’ll keep going after this initial run. Stay tuned.
