Tiramisu Like Mama Makes It

a bowl of food with a spoon

I tend to skip daytime eating on short trips in favor of seeing more things. But after a couple of hours in Taormina I was starving and decided to see what was available near the Villa Comunale. I’d read good things about Delmon, but it was closed. A few doors down was the exuberantly decorated Ristorante al Giardino.

I had a healthy amount of skepticism, but the menu board looked ok and proclaimed lots of Trip Advisor praise. It was already 2:30PM so I decided to risk it.

It had an outdoor courtyard with tables as well as indoor seating. Daniel, one of the owners, spoke great English and encouraged me to sit wherever I wanted, I chose outside in the good weather. It was relatively quiet though quite a few people came in after I did.

I started first with a half carafe of the local wine, which was pretty affordable and decent tasting.

The swordfish looked interesting and I love home-made pasta, so I tried that dish. It was even better than I had hoped!

Thoroughly mellow and enjoying the free internet (so I could make all my Facebook friends jealous with my Taormina pictures) I decided to go for dessert. And I decided to ask Daniel what he thought their best dessert was — not what all the tourists ordered, but what he personally thought was the best.

He suggested the tiramisu made by his mother.

So good!!!

Definitely a worth a visit here if you’re looking for good food near the gardens.
